貧富の格差に対する草の根の抗議運動としてNYから世界各地に飛び火した「オキュパイ・ウォール・ストリート（OWS）」が実は一部で「タンブラー革命」と呼ばれているのをご存じだろうか？

OWSの主催者たちはデモを始める前の８月に「wearethe99%」というアカウントを設置し、ローンが払えない、仕事が見つからないといった自分の苦境を表す文章に「私は99％です」の文に加え、写真とともにアップするように、一般ユーザーに呼びかけていた。このアカウントは、気に入ったポストを自分のフォロワーと共有するタンブラーの「リブログ」機能によって瞬く間に拡散し、ネット上でOWSが知名度を上げるのに大いに貢献した。
