例えば、僕はiPhoneの新製品が出るときの予約は絶対にオンラインでやらずに、お店に行く。

オンラインは、どこかしら一カ所に人が殺到するので、擬似的に大量の行列ができていて、そのゲームに参加するのがバカバカしいからだ。Webサーバーは、同時並行で処理できると言うが、申し込みデータを保存したり、登録人数に限界があると、どこかしらで仮想の行列が存在することとなる。

人気のセミナーの予約に日本中の学生が殺到するとなると、本当にあっという間に大量の行列ができている。お店であれば物理的な分散が行われているので、もう少し悠長に事が運ぶので、iPhone4sの時にも1時間半前に並んで、ぼーっとしてるだけで予約できた。後で在庫がなくていろんな店を探すよりは、一発で決めた方が精神的にも時間的にも最適だと思ったからだ。

一瞬のうちに行列が制御されるネットは「人気が集中するもの」には向いてない。
